Even Newsweek had to admit it:Holocaust movies have long been a Hollywood staple. At the Internet Movie Database, inputting the term "Holocaust" will produce a record of nearly 500 full-length, made-for-tv, and short movies. "Nazi" brings up over 1100 hits. The Japanese were particularly brutal to POW's in WWII and responsible for upwards of 30 million deaths in the Pacific rim, and they barely get a mention.
Five big-budget Holocaust dramas got released all at once toward the end of 2008, just in time to cover up the atrocities in Gaza by tugging at our collective heartstrings about how much the Jews suffered under the Third Reich.
Nearly all had stars that were box office draws: The Reader starring Kate Winslet (released 01/2009); Valkyrie with Tom Cruise (12/2008); The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (11/2008); Viggo Mortenson in Good (11/2008), and last but not least, heartthrob Brad Pitt in Inglorious Basterds (8/2008).
Hollywood keeps a ton of these tearjerker, guilt inducing propaganda pieces in the works at all times. It's standard operating procedure in the "dream factory".

I don't watch much television, though I do leave it on sometimes. And occasionally I catch something.
"Product Placement" amounts to a form of advertising that is done subtly in film and television. The situation comedy "Seinfeld" did a lot of product placement for things like Jujyfruits, Junior Mints, Snapple, Oreos, Ovaltine, and the J. Peterman clothing company, among many others. This is not by accident. Ever. (I took Communications and PR in school). Many of these products became a main point or "running gag" of the Seinfeld scripts, and the scripts were written to accomodate these product insertions.
Here is an older article from Business Week which mentions the movie "Toy Story" - director Joe Dante has said that Hasbro's role was a "serious" part of why the movie got made at all.
This also happens in everyday news. "Starbucks is now using recyclable paper cups!" chirps your local newreader. This is filler. This filler was provided by Starbucks' PR department as a news release, which is not paid for by the news caster, but amounts to a ton of free advertising for Starbucks. There is a lot of this going on. Just watch the news. You'd almost think there was nothing else important that needed to be covered.
So now we have an episode of "Friends" where Matt LeBlanc is at home with nothing better to do than watch the Chabad Telethon. Most people in the US have no idea what Chabad is much less that they have a telethon. As for the telethon, I would never have known unless it was for the "free advertising".

I went surfing for some info on Chabad and I came across this blog which is linked to FailedMessiah.com (which links back to the blog). I haven't looked much into this site yet. FailedMessiah.com seems to get a lot of press in the mainstream media, which makes it suspect. According to Alexa, it doesn't get much readership.
Internal community dispute? What is it with Chabad Lubavitcher Rabbis and bombs? It seems his got no press whatsoever in the international media at the time. I have not heard about it until today.

The three people detained by Iran for crossing the Iran-Kurdistan border illegally are Joshua Fattal, Shane Bauer, and Sarah Shourd. Fattal lives in Eugene, Oregon, and the other two Americans are from the Bay area.
KING 5 News (Seattle) has learned that a fourth American who traveled with the group is a Seattle resident. University of Washington PhD student Shon Meckfessel appears to be the one American in the group who was not detained because he was not with the group at the time.
All three of the detained appear to be writers, as is Meckfessel, who authored the book "Suffled How it Gush: A North American Anarchist in the Balkans." In an Amazon review of the book, Meckfessel is described as "a green-haired, banjo-playing anarcho-punk journalist from Sacramento."
Fattal is described as a writer for "The Jewish Week" however, there are only 2 articles on the site authored by Fattal. Updated news indicates that the Fattal that writes for The Jewish Week
is a different Joshua Fattal and no relation to the Iran captive.
Shon Meckfessel, the only member of the group not arrested, claimed he did not go on the hike but stayed at their hotel because he was not feeling well.
The discrepancy could not immediately be reconciled.

In another report:The US nationals identified as Shane Bower, Sara Short and Joshua Steel were reportedly arrested on Friday after crossing into the country via Iraq's northern Kurdish region.
They had "mistakenly" crossed into Iranian territory Friday while hiking in a mountainous area, Kurdish officials from the self-ruled region were reported as saying.
This is while reports clamed Colonel Anwar Haj Omar of the Halabja police force in northern Iraq on Sunday linked the three to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
"These three people were agents working with the CIA and were arrested near the resort town of Ahmed Awaa," Omar was quoted by Ayandeh news as saying.
Another news item states:The fourth member of the group, who took ill and stayed behind at a hotel, spoke by telephone to the group who told him they were 'being held by soldiers who are not speaking Kurdish or Arabic. Another report from TEHRAN (FNA)-After three U.S. citizens were reportedly arrested on Friday for crossing illegally into Iranian territory, officials announced on Saturday that Iranian forces have monitored and registered frequent flights by two U.S. drones over Iran-Iraq bordering areas.
Eyewitnesses said that since last night the two U.S. spy planes have been flying over 'Ahmed Awa' area in the Iraqi region of Kurdistan, where the American tourists stayed before crossing into Iran.
Also they said that three U.S. military vehicles also arrived in the region on Saturday morning.
Ahmed named the three as Shane Bower, Sara Short and Joshua Steel, while Shaun Gabriel Maxwell stayed behind in their hotel in the autonomous Kurdish region's second largest city of Sulaimaniyah.
Ahmed said the group had originally been in Syria before going to Turkey and eventually crossing the Turkey-Kurdistan border. They stayed in the regional capital Arbil for one night before moving on to Sulaimaniyah.
The reason for the presence of these American nationals is not known. The western media, in the past few days, extensively propagated that these three U.S. personnel have been kidnapped.
OK - so "Shon Meckfessel" is now "Shaun Gabriel Maxwell", and "Joshua Fattal" is now "Joshua Steel".

Another report: The Americans range in age from 27 to 36, and two are studying Arabic in Damascus...Joshua Fattal's father is Iraqi...The hikers' detention will chagrin President Obama, who has been courting better diplomatic relations with Iran in recent months. In May, the American journalist Roxanna Saberi was freed...she had been convicted of spying.
Meckfessel was studying Arabic, his grandmother said: “He’s very much interested in people and languages and he’s working on a Ph.D. in linguistics.”
Sarah Shourd is a writer for Matador Pulse and is said to be from "the Bay area." There was a Facebook profile for a Sarah Shourd from California who is a "teacher/writer at Iraqi Students Project Connections." The profile also said Ms. Shourd is "currently based in the Middle East."

At the time of Michael Jackson's death, faster than you could say "Mishpucka", Jackson's "friend", Al Malnik toldreporters that in either 2003 or 2004, Jackson named him the executor of his will and guardian of his youngest son, Prince Michael Jackson II, better known as “Blanket”.
Bob Norman reports Malnick and Jackson had a falling out some years ago, possibly because Jackson believed Malnik was part of a conspiracy (along with music executive Tommy Mottola and film director Brett Ratner) to separate him from his stake in the Beatle's catalogue.
Malnik began making large loans (one account states $70 million) to Jackson when his career nosedived. Jackson's debt was said to be close to $200 million as of 2003, and may have been more by the time he died.
Before the child molestation charges, several financial rescue plans had been in the works for Jackson through a consortium of investors led by Malnik. Malnik said that a bank was about to place a lien on Neverland and other assets when he stepped in. Malnik and Charles Koppelman, a business manager for Mr. Jackson, hoped to extend the loan's due date to December 2005, with the backing of a New York-based hedge fund. As part of the terms of the loans, Malnik was appointed as a trustee over Jackson's spending. Attorney General Bob Butterworth [Florida] likens the business to 'legalized loan sharking.' Car title loan companies, often funded by major auto retailers, have blossomed in every neighborhood (and America's largest was Atlanta-based Title Loans of America).
Federally chartered banks, which can't be regulated by states, have teamed up with rip-off payday loan operators to duck under bans on usury. Due to lack of regulation, Malnik's Title Loans was able to lend money legally at annual percentage rates reaching 264%.
Malnik is also associated with "fraud in the billions" con artist Joel Steinger profiled here and here. "When Malnik says jump, Joel jumps," says one source. "Malnik is one of the few people in the world that Joel respects and fears." In 1982, Malnik's Rolls-Royce was mysteriously blown up in the parking garage of the Cricket Club in Miami, a high-rise condo he developed where Steinger once lived as a neighbor. No one was hurt.
"It was a known fact among the criminal underworld that dealing with Al Malnik was the same as dealing with Meyer Lansky," [said] Vincent Teresa, a convicted criminal and frequent government witness currently in the federal Witness Protection Program. At the time, the FBI believed he left behind over $300 million in hidden bank accounts, but they never found any money.

Malnik preys on the poor with his check cashing stores, has abused his employees at the Forge restaurant, been sued for refusing to pay minimum wage, hires illegals as housekeepers at his house, and is persona non-grata in Palm Beach - he is not a 'Palm -Beacher' but lives in Manalapan and has been refused entry to every private club in Palm Beach." In the early 1970s, Malnik was also involved with Sam Cohen's sons in land deals in Florida and the Poconos. Their companies -- COMAL and "Cove Associates" -- dealt with Caesar's World and the Teamsters Pension Fund, both institutions which have attracted a substantial amount of law enforcement attention
In 1962, Malnik was listed as a director of the Bank of World Commerce, a Bahamas-based institution that involved 'some of the nations' top gangsters' and was known as a "loot laundry". Malnik is said to control the Bahamas gambling and Caribbean drug running. Malnik was involved with Lansky in the setup of the Bahama's Paradise Island and Resorts International. In 1978, a Bahamian company named Appolonia Investment Limited paid $3.35 million to buy the property just north of Malnik's Ranch. Malnik refuse to divulge Appolonia's owners.
But records from the Register General's Office in the Bahamas show the principal shareholder is a Saudi Arabian prince who is a prominent member of the kingdom's royal family and longtime friend of Malnik's.
Malnik and the prince -- a son of King Abdul Aziz, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia -- once lived in neighboring condos in the Cricket Club. According to news stories in the 1980s, the pair also traveled abroad together. Malnik's son would later change his name from Mark to Shareef and marry into the royal Saud family.
It is known that the Saudi King would frequently send his private 747 to Florida to pick up Malnik and his associate so they could conduct business on the plane away from prying eyes.
Given the history of Jackson and Malnik, it wouldn't be a surprise if the present executors of the Jackson will,John Branca and John McClain, were fronting for Malnik or one of his Mishpucka associates. They are not letting Jackson' s mother Katherine see the agreement Jackson signed with AEG, the concert promoter in charge of what was to be his 2009 world tour. Katherine's attorney McMillan says this contract could be a huge source of income for the estate. Michael's sister LaToya states that Jackson revised his wills every 5 years or so, and that the final one is yet to emerge.
LaToya stated in her book LaToya: Growing Up in the Jackson Family that the Jacksons often mentioned their disgust with having to deal with "so many Jews" in the entertainment business. Was LaToya set up by Sacha Baron Cohen in the movie Bruno as part of the payback for the family's "anti-Semitism"?
During the interview, Bruno chats with LaToya and gets her to sit on "chairs," which are actually Mexican workers, and eat sushi off a naked male. Finally, Bruno steals her phone so he can get Michael's number out of it. Due to Jackson's death, the scene was cut from the completed movie.
